Lanzarote Island of Eternal Spring
From it’s volcanic landscapes to it’s exciting resorts. Lanzarote will always keep you going back for more.
The Manrique Foundation was one place we desperately wanted to visit, so we dropped into a taxi and and set off for the hills near to Costa Teguise.
Upon arrival you walk through a small courtyard where wind driven devices baffle the senses as they spin in kaleidoscopic patterns above your head.
The once home to Cesar Manrique has now been turned into a living reminder of the mans genius, part museum and part house, it shows his work and art in a way that is hard to describe, as it portrays a style many years advanced.
Futuristic in style yet beautifully decorated in a simple way to give it the homely touch i'm sure Manrique coveted.
If you visit Lanzarote and in need of something different, something unique and something beautiful that will leave you contemplating for some time to come then the Manrique Foundation is a must visit.
So much to see and do as you venture out and about.
Teguise Street Market
If all you do is like to stroll around and people watch over a coffee then this is the place for you.
The stalls are full of souvenirs to take back home, some genuine others NOT! But it’s all part of the experience. It’s a huge area to cover and gets very busy with locals and tourists alike.
On the occasion we went, it poured with rain and we had a heavy thunderstorm. You should be aware it can get chilly as it’s quite high up, so go prepared for all eventualities.
Timanfaya National Park
is another not to miss outing when on the island. If you ever wondered what it might be like to be on another planet, then this is certainly a place where the beautiful meets the weird.
It’s a wonderland of volcanic surprises from the natural geysers where fire and steam come shooting out from the earth below.
The visitor centre holds many of the secrets to the park and the island in general with explanations on how the geography is based. The centre is also built out of volcanic rock.
There are a number of bus tours to reach Timanfaya, or you can make your own way with a hire vehicle.
We had the pleasure to visit some memorable sites while on the island. There are some great days out.
